Nigeria was conspicuously absent when Santan Dave announced The Boy Who Played the Harp global tour in October 2025. By the time the tour began in Munich in February, one Nigerian Dave superfan had embarked on a daily campaign to curry the rapper’s attention on X, documenting each day of his appeal with posts that began, “Day 1 of asking Santan Dave to include Nigeria on his tour.”
The fan kept at it daily, through Dave’s European, North American and Australian dates and even the announcement of his first African stops in South Africa. Then, on June 9, on his 102nd day of asking, Dave finally announced a Nigeria stop, which will be his first-ever headline show in the country and close out the tour on October 16 and 17 at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos.
“My brother. Your watch has ended,” Dave responded to the superfan, even if the campaign may have had little to do with a stop that could well have been in the works all along. This is a show you don’t want to miss, especially as Dave himself has promised it’ll be a “special homecoming.” For those who err on
the side of staying home, we suspect what fills your social media feeds between those two days will be a rather painful reminder of what you’re missing. Here are four things we can almost see happening.
The Songs That Mean More Live
There is a whole world of difference between streaming your favourite songs through your headphones and hearing 4,000 people scream every word back at Dave. The songs that have lived on your playlists, dominated parties and soundtracked countless moments will suddenly belong to the room, and you’ll
want to be in it when they do.
There’ll be the big records, the deep cuts that only the serious fans know every word to, and perhaps the songs you didn’t realise you needed to hear live until Dave starts performing them. If you’re at home, someone else’s phone will probably be your window into all of it.
Dave and Tems’ Chemistry
A lot has been said about this duo over the past year. The public appearances, the seemingly natural chemistry on “Raindance” and its video, including Tems’ “Mine,” and their rather awkward live performance have all given fans plenty to talk about. If – and that isn’t a particularly big if – Tems gets to share the stage with Dave on either of his days in Nigeria, it’d certainly be one of those moments social media will feast on for days, and one you’d rather experience in person than through someone else’s shaky phone recording.
David, His Piano and Guitar
David has yet to perform with an actual harp, but any longtime fan knows the piano and electric guitar won’t be displaced that easily, album title notwithstanding.
There is something about watching a technically astute musician strip things back with his comfort instruments that makes for particularly shareable concert footage, and Lagos should provide no shortage of it. If he picks up the guitar, sits behind the piano and gets into one of those more introspective moments, you can bet watching it all from home will leave you wishing you had been there to experience it yourself.
The Surprise Appearance
This is the part where no one can really say. Any collaborator other than Tems who shares the stage with Dave would be surprising enough. We’ve seen holograms fill the void at some stops, but perhaps what will make this a truly special homecoming will be the appearance of at least one heavyweight. Burna Boy? Central Cee? Stormzy? Someone entirely left-field? None of them is confirmed, and of
course, that uncertainty is exactly why watching the whole thing unfold through your feed could leave you wishing you had been there.
Here’s the thing about these moments: they’re only “content” if you’re not there for them. While some will be reliving Dave’s Lagos homecoming through ten-second clips and reposts, you could just as easily be the one in the crowd whose voice is drowned out by 4,000 others screaming a chorus back at him.
