The Nigerian entertainment and content space has paved the way for diversity and creativity in all forms. With the use of social media, talents have been able to showcase and entertain their immediate, as well as extended communities.
While skitmaking has been around for a while, it gained more traction during the Covid year – 2020. Nigerian youths got bored and decided to get in tune with their creative edge, simultaneously entertaining and lightening up the world of millions of Nigerians.
This piece brings to the limelight 5 of the Nigerian Instagram skitmakers who broke out in 2023.
1. Omo.Oba
Omo Oba as she tags herself is one of the now-famous Nigerian content creators. Although she began her journey in 2020, while home from school due to Covid, she only gained popularity in the social media space this year.
Omo Oba’s skits are relatable and funny. She taps into the characters of the typical African family – father, mother, and children. She also imitates government workers, their mode of dressing, and their style of communication.
Aderonke’s Instagram following alone has risen to 447k, thanks to her loyal and growing fanbase, who keep supporting her brand. She has also gained ambassadorial deals through content creation.
2. Motell Solomon
Motell Solom is a different breed of skit maker. If you’re having a bad day, just take a stroll to his page. Barely seeing Motell without hearing him speak or perform will have you in stitches. He is characterized by standing by a window in his newsboy cap and his Nokia torchlight phone.
Usually, he calls a friend, and Phillip tries to make small talk, before proceeding to ask him for money, mostly 1k. However, luck is never on his side, as his friend is already in the know of his cunny strategies and hangs up on him just before he gets to speak. This happens to him all the time.
Motell has a fast-growing social following.
3. Wizdom the Comedian “Bros I Greet”
Wizdom the comedian aka “Bros I Greet” is another Nigerian comedian who has won the hearts of many. Apart from being a humor-based skitmaker, he also works as an MC, who started his journey back in 2019. Although his skit-making days kicked off in 2021, he only just broke out in 2023.
Wizdom is not only funny but is also super versatile in his approach to digital content creation. His hilarious opening phrase, “I greet you bros” has become an even more popular slang among Nigerians, and let’s not even talk about his signature teal suit and face cap. Currently, Wisdom is hugely followed on social media.
4. Only1daddyyess
I bet you have noticed a short chubby guy who constantly pops up on your timeline with comical-looking outfits, yup, that’s him. Only1daddyyess is another skitmaker who broke out in 2023. One thing you’d notice about him is his consistency. He puts out at least 3 videos daily, which is like a weekly average for others. So even if you find it hard to relate to his contents initially, you’d be forced to.
Daddyyess’ contents are very relatable and his ideas are always off the roof. One would wonder what goes on in his thought process that births such ideas.
5. Fufu_Culture
