  1. What inspired you to write this song?

“Issues” was motivated by a state of helplessness I felt in a past relationship. Reminiscing, these were words I couldn’t say then. “Tsunami” started off as questions I never would ask a partner but it slowly turned into a song assuring my partner.

  1. Can you describe the writing process?

For “Issues,” the process was easy because I started humming the words while working on the beat. I had an idea on the direction from the start. However, with “Tsunami”, wrote the verse very fast cause all I had to do was chase the beat. The beat already had a direction for me to follow.

  1. What emotions were you feeling when you wrote this song?

“Issues” – Frustration, Remorse. “Tsunami” – Happiness

  1. How does this song relate to your personal experiences or beliefs?

“Issues” is about my personal experience in a relationship that stressed me out. I believe love shouldn’t be forced so it was a new experience having to stress about a person. On “Tsunami” I sing words that I would never express to a partner because I struggle with expressing my vulnerability.

  1. How did you feel while working on this song?

I was very at peace working on “Issues” because it felt like I let go off feelings I had been holding on to. However, “Tsunami” was a completely new experience; I mostly sang about my pain, so it was good to sing about a positive and exciting feeling.

  1. Is there a particular line or verse in this song that holds special meaning for you?

Issues – “are you too tired of whining and crying” talks about having a manipulative partner.

Tsunami – “ti mo ba sun, ti mi o ba sun. will you be there to wait for me” speaks about my need for assurance. It shows my fears.

  1. What do you hope listeners take away from this song?

With “Issues,” I hope they can connect to the feelings I felt making the song. I hope it is something can relate to. “Tsunami” carries the simplicity of falling in love and I hope listeners can relate to the emotions manana and I had singing the song.

  1. Are there any other creative influences or inspirations that you drew upon when creating this song?

On “Issues,” I tried to emulate angelique Kidjo’s style of singing in Yoruba for issues. One of the major inspirations for tsunami was beyonce’s song “Running( Lose it all)”
