Data Collection and Cleaning

Data was collected via Twitter Search API using the official hashtag and name of the album.

#CMIYC, #CatchMeIfYouCan, ”Catch Me If You Can”

An interesting point to note is that the phrase CATCH ME IF YOU CAN was already mainstream.  It was the title of a movie starring Leonardo Di Caprio and also the title of a song composed by John Williams.

This knowledge was very useful in the data cleaning process. Twitter had just finished reacting to Tinder Swindler and Inventing Anna (Movies depicting scammers and their methods). References to these movies were being mentioned in our dataset and we had to filter out the unrelated tweets.

A total of 35,000+ tweets were collected and after the cleaning, we were able to trim it down to 29,000+

Tweet By Time:

We wanted to see the number of tweets in the following order:

  • 1 week before the album launch
  • The album launch day
  • 2 weeks after the launch date
