Nigerian-born, South Africa-based singer-songwriter Marathon (real name Isaac Chukwuma) has officially released his long-anticipated debut extended play, Gold & Roses, a soulful and genre-bending body of work that blends Afrobeat, R&B, and pop with themes rooted in love, passion, and personal growth.
Born in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, Marathon began his music journey at 15 and has since carved out a unique sonic identity that reflects both his cultural roots and contemporary influences. Gold & Roses marks a significant milestone in his evolution as an artist—showcasing his refined sound, deeper storytelling, and a commitment to authenticity.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the project, Marathon shares:
“Gold & Roses represents both success and beauty. the grind and the rewards. Gold symbolizes the hustle, resilience, and achievements, while roses represent love, passion, and the emotional side of life. This EP captures both elements, showing the balance between chasing dreams and appreciating life’s finer moments”
The 6-track EP offers listeners a curated experience through diverse yet cohesive themes:
- Today – A tender ode to love and connection
- Some More – An intimate exploration of desire and passion
- Addicted – The intoxicating pull of emotional and physical chemistry
- Valentino – Romantic declarations wrapped in smooth melodies
- Sokoronto – A gritty anthem about ambition, grind, and success
- Sweet 16 – A nostalgic, feel-good reflection on young love
Following the success of past singles like DND and Zero Talk, Marathon is pushing beyond making hits—he’s building legacy. With Gold & Roses, he reaffirms his place as one of the emerging voices redefining Afrobeat’s global narrative.
