Let’s gist: Kaptain’s love ship- the EP.

A summary of our tweet chat with Kaptain, following the release of his extended play titled Love Ship.

Hello Kaptain, how are you doing this evening?
I am very well thanks! I apologize for joining later than scheduled. I just got into Lagos after a delayed flight!

Sorry about your delayed flight but we’re glad that you’re fine. Welcome back to Lagos! Congratulations on the release of your EP ‘Love Ship’, how has the reception been so far?
The reception has been very positive I must confess. Since the EP dropped I have performed at 4 locations across Nigeria and the audience sang word for word, songs from the EP. It’s humbling.

What was the creative process behind the EP? How did you select the songs for it?
The process was quite seamless. I and my producers (Wonderbeatz and Mikaba) have a grounded understanding of my sound. So when they sent the beats, I just recorded the vibe I had then. ‘Lor Lor’ came first.

How long did it take to create ‘Love Ship EP’? When did you start recording?
I usually have lots of ideas stored up on my drafts and voice notes. So whenever I need to satisfy my fans, I just reach in and complete a few. Recording the EP took 3 days in all.

What inspired you to create this EP?
Well, there was just an urge from my fans to put out new music after we dropped ‘KAPACITY’ EP.

Are we getting videos for the songs on the EP? Are there any collaborations in the works that you are excited about?
Yes, there would be a video from the loveship ep. and there are no collaborations.

What does Kaptain do when he’s not making music?
Listening to music and watching materials that help me improve my sound. Lately, I am also trying to create more time to be online and interact with my fans.

What’s next for kaptain in 2021?
I have plans set for 2021 already but we have to see how the pandemic goes. That will determine a lot but what’s definitely happening is more music will drop.

What part of making ‘Love Ship EP’ experience is your favorite so far? Writing? Recording? Releasing? Performing? etc.
Every part of the journey has been interesting really. We’ve had a release party, I’ve performed across Nigeria, the media is also showing love to me really for the first time. It tells me I’m doing something right.

Which is your favourite song on ‘Love Ship EP’? Tell us why?
Hard question but I’ll go for ‘Lor Lor’ just because I had an enjoyable session while recording it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years as an artist?
In 5 years, I expect to be pushing to break new goals and grow the brand to commercial success!

What are your dream collaborations locally and internationally? Artists you would love to work with in the future.
Tems, Wizkid, Drake, Omah lay, Davido, Tory Lanez… The list goes on and on.

Do you have any positive words for your fans & supporters?
Keep doing what you’re doing don’t give up. People are watching even if you think they aren’t. And hold God very close!

Any upcoming online shows or concerts? (Considering the lockdown restricted imposed by the Lagos State Government)
That’s actually something to look into. Like I said in my earlier tweets we have to see how the pandemic moves before we can fully activate the plans we have coming.

We certainly can’t wait to hear what you’ve got coming next. We really enjoyed spending this evening chatting with you and we hope you had fun. Everyone go stream ‘Love Ship EP’, out in stores now! Link here
