Jeffrey Benson is an independent Canadian-based Afro-fusion artist, singer, and songwriter from Nigeria. As a 15-year-old rapper, he drew inspiration from Lil Wayne, Naeto c, Sauce Kid, and Drake. However, his pursuit of a career in hip/hop was short-lived when he discovered pan-Africanism through a friend. And his curiosity led him to research further by watching documentaries on African leaders and artists who championed the Movement.

Inspired by Burna boy, Ajebutter, BOJ, and BlackMagic, he started exploring singing with his baritone voice. JB began the recording of Some Love & More on February 5th, 2021, barely 3 months after the release of his 1st project and 2 days since his return back to Canada. On the 1st of December 2021, during the celebration of his mum’s birthday, she made a statement on how music from her time had more meaning and soul as she danced and sang away to Marvin Gaye and others. This was an awakening moment for the artist to explore the Soulful / R&B side of his sound, hence Track 1 – “Some Love & More”. This set the mood for the tape.
At the time of recording, JB was dealing with the fear of “losing it”. He was told no one makes it big from outside Lagos. Escaping these cloudy thoughts to clear thinking inspired Track 3 – “Sunrise”. A positive affirmation that even in the dark a star would shine.
A real music lover cannot help but be in awe of the range and talent of the artist. The growth from his debut project “Sorry Dad, I Do Music Now” to this “Some Love & More”, is the epitome of consistency compliments talent. You can hear it loud and clear on this project.
