A delegation from Chocolate City Group, led by Paul Okeugo, Group President and Head of Legal and Business Affairs Ifeyinwa Anyadiegwu, recently met with the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, in Abuja.
The meeting was to formally present Chocolate City’s plans for its 20th-anniversary celebrations. It was also an opportunity to explore potential collaborations to preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage, Intellectual Property protections, and continuing Chocolate City’s exemplary leadership in the creative industries in Nigeria. The Minister noted the pivotal role the company and its founders, Paul Okeugo and Audu Maikori, have played in driving value for the creative sector over the past two decades.
The delegation was also received by the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Obi Asika, who said, “It is always a pleasure to connect with the Chocolate City team, with whom I have collaborated over the last two decades, and we look forward to celebrating the last 20 years and pushing forward into the future.”
Chocolate City Music is a Nigerian record label founded in 2005 by lawyer Audu Maikori, along with Paul Okeugo and Yahaya Maikori. Generally regarded as one of the most successful indigenous urban record labels in Africa, Chocolate City Music operates as a subsidiary of Chocolate City Group.
The label is home to recording artists such as: Femi Kuti, Blaqbonez, Young Jonn, Noon Dave, Candy Bleakz, Tar1Q, Major AJ. Artists formerly signed to the label include Ckay, M.I Abaga, Dice Ailes, Victoria Kimani, Ice Prince, DJ Caise, DJ Lambo, Jeremiah Gyang, Ruby Gyang, Pryse, Brymo, Koker and Jesse Jagz.
