EKENE’S SECOND SINGLE, “RED BENZ,” IS AN ACHINGLY EVOCATIVE R&B RECORD

Rising Lagos-based singer-songwriter EKENE releases his second single off his debut EP, Little Us, titled Red Benz, produced by Spax.

Warm and cinematic in feel, Red Benz draws on mid-2000s R&B and soul influences to paint an achingly vivid portrait of a secret relationship built on stolen moments and the unspoken agreement to keep things between the sheets. The song takes its name from the “Red Benz” — the motel taxi that serves as the story’s emotional anchor. Through it, EKENE revisits a series of memories with clarity and longing, reflecting on a connection that feels both deeply meaningful and ultimately out of reach. Equal parts nostalgic and self-aware, Red Benz captures the emotional complexity of wanting something you know was never supposed to be yours.

In the Nigerian R&B and alternative scene, EKENE is establishing a unique presence marked by lyrical exactness, emotional openness, and a vocal style that conveys profound unspoken depth. As the second track from his upcoming EP Little Us, Red Benz offers a glimpse into an intimate project centered on the complexities of identity and the constraints of a traditional, religious upbringing in Nigeria.

ABOUT EKENE

EKENE is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter from Lagos whose music is rooted in a desire to document his truth. Raised on gospel music and later drawn to contemporary rap, pop, and R&B, his sound has evolved through years of experimentation from singing in the choir to picking up the guitar and crafting the introspective, soulful records he makes today. Similar to artists like Giveon, Daniel Caesar and Khamari, his writing digs into authentic, raw emotion, offering listeners a mirror to their own experiences through a voice that is both timeless and deeply sincere. His debut EP, Little Us, is set for release on July 3, 2026.
