
Attempting to quench the thirst to put out one last release before the end of 2021, emerging Nigerian alternative Hip-Hop duo, Riverays, drop a two-track EP along with their corresponding instrumentals.” A Riverays Two-Pack” presents two choices, comparable to if a popular beer brand decided to drop a special edition seasonal two-pack during the holidays: an alternative yet pop-facing “Hot Tub”-flavored track and a more mellowed and traditional hip-hop “Train Wreck”. Each record plays its part to sell the versatility of the Nigerian duo’s rap style, melody composing, songwriting, and production.
While many artistes of Nigerian descent mold themselves to fit into Nigeria’s Afropop genre, Nigerian alternative hip-hop duo, Riverays, relish in the challenge of creating unorthodox melodies and rapping with uncommon cadences over experimental, self-produced beats as they wait for their talent to meet opportunity. Judah Chima (“Iver Rivers”) and Joseph Chikak (“Ray the Boffin”) were both born and raised in Nigeria, but migrated to Ukraine for better education. When each discovered that the other could sing, rap, write, and produce, they formed the group “Riverays” in 2018 and began creating music.
