TurnTable charts to launch recording certification of Nigeria with WeTalkSound

TurnTable Charts, the foremost music chart publication in Nigeria, is pleased to announce a groundbreaking partnership with WeTalkSound, Nigeria’s largest music community, to launch a music certification body in Nigeria called Recording Certification of Nigeria.

TurnTable Charts, which launched its first ever music chart on July 9, 2020, has remained committed to creating objective representation of music consumption in Nigeria. The publication has since launched the first ever standard aggregate music chart in Nigeria on November 9, 2020 that combines radio airplay, TV airplay and freemium streaming in Nigeria – the TurnTable Top 50.

Since its launch, TurnTable Top 50 has become the biggest and most important music chart in Nigeria. The Top 50 captures music consumption in Nigeria across different demographics and also serves as a much-needed database for the documentation of the development and evolution of Nigerian Music.

Committed to its mission to create solutions to existing problems around music data and aggregation in Nigeria, the publication teamed up with founding members of WeTalkSound to create a body that will set the benchmark for artistic success in Nigeria through music certification having met certain standards.

Other countries in the world have established organizations and publications that are in charge of music recording certification and standard music charts; RIAA and Billboard in the United States, BPI and UK Official Chart Company in the UK, ARIA and ARIA Charts in the Australia and many more. TurnTable Charts will serve as the music chart publication while RCN will serve as the music recording certification in Nigeria.

The threshold for certification is based on the population of the country, comparable nations (South Africa, France and the UK) and prevalent mode of music consumption in the country.
The certification will be done in three tiers; Short Form Music Video which will honor music videos that have met unique standards on YouTube based on local views; Freemium Audio Streaming (FAS) which will honor albums and singles that have met unique standards on freemium streaming platforms in the country; and Paid Audio Streaming & Sales (PAS) which will honor albums and singles that have met unique standards on paid digital platforms in the country through a Special Certification Request.
